Brisbane Airport Roadway Link

The Brisbane Airport roadway link is Australia’s largest infrastructure project and with its close proximity to a densely built urban centre and multiple tunnelling and excavation challenges, made this as complex as any road project ever attempted.

Project details

Client: Thiess John Holland

Budget: Aus$4.8 Billion

The project featured more than ten simultaneous drives with multiple face using tunnel boring machines, road headers with New Austrian Tunnelling Method (NATM) linings and cut and cover techniques.

With so many shallowly founded structures above, and with many of them highly sensitive to ground movement, it was clear that the proper management of instrumentation data linked with the construction progress and design prediction was going to be critical.

After successfully delivering the Busway, Gateway and Northern Access Relief Road Projects (NARRP), Maxwell GeoSystems were chosen to implement the systems.

Maxwell GeoSystems worked with the on site design teams to deliver focused reports and analytical tools through our proprietary data management systems which were used to check on the tunnel works in real time. Ultimately Maxwell GeoSystems Data Systems became the data resource on which daily Permit to Tunnel was decided.
