Protection of Coastal Reservoir Structures in Singapore

Protection of Coastal Reservoir Structures in Singapore

PUB, the national water agency in Singapore, have initiated an engineering study to identify measures necessary to protect coastal reservoir structures such as dams, tidal gates, dykes and spillways at eleven reservoirs across the city. Nine of the seventeen reservoirs are Estuarine reservoirs located near the sea, which were built in the last forty years. Maxwell GeoSystems MissionOS will be supporting the project with the implementation of the Dam Automation Instrumentation Monitoring System (DAIMS), while Ryobi Geotechnique Pte. Ltd. (Singapore) was awarded the instrument installation and monitoring works for this undertaking. DAIMS is a web-based data management system, that will be used to access geotechnical data derived from instrumentation deployed at Estuarine reservoir dams/dykes and perform as a risk management platform. The objectives of the instruments and DAIMS are to monitor ground movements and their effects on the reservoir dams/dykes. The project, spanning forty-eight months will comprise of two parts. Part one will focus on Lower Seletar, Kranji, Punggol, and Serangoon reservoirs, with Part two focusing within Tengeh, Poyan, Sarimbun, and Pulau Tekong reservoirs. Previously, Maxwell GeoSystems has worked with PUB for the implementation of STEMS (Shaft and Tunnel Excavation Monitoring System) in the DTSS2 project, for which the company was awarded the first prize in Tunnelling Specialist Supplier of the Year at the prestigious NCE Tunnelling Festival Award 2021Ceremony which took place in the UK, back in December.
